At the time, the plan was to release a four-book set named Four Seasons of the Pond, and the first two books in this series Waterside Embankment and Impressions of the Lotus Pond were published in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, because of the filming of other series, I put the publishing of this series on hold, but I always felt that this project was not finished. In recent years, especially in the past three years, I have had some time to review the past works, and at the same time, some friends are concerned about the integrity of this series, so I have the idea of giving a complete account of this series. Ten years ago, when I shot this series, all I had to deal with was along the Kunyu River near my home, as far as the Summer Palace, and as close as Yuyuantan. I know the neighborhood of my hometown very well, and the desire of “finding this moment right here” had already overridden the earlier impulse of “treating other places as my hometown”, and this kind of intention was washed away in this series and in other shooting actions later on. Personally, I think Four Seasons of the Pond is a watershed in my photographic activities. In hindsight, I have many regrets about the work I shot at that time, some of which were powerlessness in the blink of an eye, and some of which were due to the limitations of my personal knowledge at the time. The good thing is that these regrets, which I realize now, were frozen in the images of that time. Despite all the regrets, the notion that electronic documents on a hard disk cannot replace the exhibition of photographs and the presentation of prints is a concept that I stubbornly believe in, and this paranoia is one of the reasons for the formation of this exhibition. Today is the anniversary of the birth of photography. I'm exhibiting these works here as a reminder of that. Thank you to the teachers and friends who have provided long-term support and attention.
